The Marathon Stick by Intracell is a muscle massage tool that is designed to simultaneously compress and stretch muscles. The primary benefit of the marathon stick to runners is the elimination of "trigger points". Trigger points are contracted bundles of muscle, which feel like bumpy tender knots. Muscles containing trigger points feel tight, fatigue quickly and often hurt. The marathon stick extinguishes these trigger points. This is accomplished by rolling the marathon stick back and forth over the entire length of the muscle. This relaxes the muscle bundle, improves circulation, increases range of motion and relieves pain. The Marathon Stick makes a great gift.

A friend of mine, who is a physical therapist, uses one of these and suggested I give it a try. It feels good to use. And it works wonders in eliminating cramps before you even get them. Keep in mind there are several versions of this by Intracell, which vary in size, weight, and the flexibilty of the massage bar. I've used both a lighter duty model which flexes quite a bit, and one of the more heavy duty models with very little flex. Both are great. But if you are going to really dig into a muscle, think about getting a 'heavier' model.

I love this stick. I use it before and after races. It is easy to use and helps loosen my muscles. It is a great buy for any athlete!!!!!!
