Patagonia Micro Puff vs. The North Face ThermoBall

The Patagonia MenÆs Micro Puff and The North Face MenÆs ThermoBall jackets are both great options to wear as a standalone winter jacket or as an insulating layer under a waterproof shell. Both of these jackets are lightweight with synthetic insulation that retains its warmth even when wet. The Thermoball jacket has a slightly lower loft insulation and a more athletic fit, great for layering or wearing alone on a cool weather hike. The Micro Puff jacket on the other hand offers slightly more insulation with a loose, comfortable fit for wearing all winter long.

For the outer shell, both of these jackets are treated with DWR making them water resistant and will dry quickly if they get wet. The Micro Puff jacket has a windproof shell material which will add extra warmth on breezy or windy days.

Since both jackets are so similar in terms of price, insulation, and features, the main differences between these two jackets can be summed up as consumer preferences. Which jacket do you think looks the best? Unless wind proofing is a must for your jacket purchase, itÆs really up to which jacket you think looks the best!
