Gill Athletics has reimagined the traditional sand pit system to deliver improved installation, performance, and long-term functionality for track and field facilities. The Gill Functional-Form Sand Pit and Catcher System was developed after our engineering team challenged conventional designs, creating a system that is easier to install while providing better sand containment and overall functionality.
The Sand Pit Form with Side and Back Sand Catchers is designed to capture and manage displaced sand around the pit, helping keep the surrounding track surface cleaner and reducing routine maintenance. The integrated sand catcher system allows excess sand to be conveniently stored when the pit is covered and easily returned to the pit for competition use. The additional sand catcher at the back of the pit further reduces cleanup and helps maintain a professional facility appearance.
Each form includes a built-in ledge designed to receive an aluminum sand pit cover, allowing facilities to protect the pit when not in use. Compatible cover systems can be ordered with the forms or purchased after installation and measurement to ensure a precise fit.
Constructed from specially folded 1/8" aluminum, the system provides excellent rigidity and durability while remaining easy to handle during installation. The prefabricated design facilitates efficient setup and concrete pours and is built to meet NFHS, NCAA, and IAAF specifications for long jump and triple jump facilities.
Sand catcher covers are available in two styles: galvanized steel bar grating with perforated rubber overlay or aluminum sheet metal with a recessed tray designed to receive track surface material, allowing the cover to blend seamlessly with the surrounding track.
