Design and Construction

Both helmets use modern shell designs tailored for youth players. The SpeedFlex features an ABS plastic shell with a distinctive flex panel integrated into the crown, engineered to disperse impact. The A11 2.0 uses a polycarbonate shell with a compact standoff profile and a raised mohawk design, combining structural reinforcement with visual appeal.

Impact Protection

Each helmet incorporates its own approach to impact reduction. The SpeedFlex utilizes Riddell’s Flex System and Patented Side Impact Protection (PISP) to manage both linear and rotational forces. It also uses Composite Energy Management to help maintain internal padding integrity. The A11 2.0 relies on single-layer black TPU cushioning and includes Poron-infused frontal pads for targeted shock absorption. Both systems aim to manage impact effectively, though one is inflatable and the other is not.

Fit and Comfort

Fit customization is handled differently. The SpeedFlex includes four inflation points and inflatable jaw pads to help create a custom fit. It also uses a flexible liner to accommodate different head shapes. The A11 2.0, while non-inflatable, uses a 3/8" crown liner and Inter-Link jaw pads for a secure fit. Both helmets offer stability and comfort, though one provides more adjustability and the other emphasizes simplicity.

Facemask and Chinstrap

Each helmet supports facemask customization and includes a soft cup chinstrap. The SpeedFlex uses Riddell’s HS4 facemasks, known for their thinner, lighter design, and comes with a ratchet-loc chinstrap for secure fastening. The A11 2.0 uses Schutt youth Vengeance facemasks and features a twist-release retainer for easier facemask swaps. Both systems are built for safety and convenience, with slightly different mechanisms.

Weight and Maintenance

Weight and upkeep differ between the two. The SpeedFlex weighs approximately 3.1 lbs and requires more maintenance due to its inflatable padding system, which involves careful inflation with specific tools. The A11 2.0 is slightly heavier at around 3.6 lbs (with facemask) but requires less maintenance thanks to its non-inflatable design.
